Within the inscription on the bell is the quote, from Hebrews 11:4, which reads:
"He Being Dead Yet Speaketh"

The full verse, in the King James version of the bible reads:

"By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh."

The bell, of unknown origin and heritage, was dedicated to the memory of Douglas Bennett, the son of John W. Bennett, past reverend of the church. Douglas tragically died on June 20th, 1902, at the young age of sixteen. John Bennett, Douglas's father, had been instrumental in establishing several Methodist Episcopal Churches further south, in the Butte area, in the 1880s, before coming to Missoula. He had served as Pastor of Trinity UMC, Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, Mount Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church and Unity Methodist Episcopal Church, all in the Butte area, before becoming Pastor of this church.

The church beside which the bell stands was built in 1911, with additions occurring at a later date.
