The Civil War monument in East Berlin, CT was erected by the Washburn Post of the Grand Army of the Republic in 1871. A 20' tall brownstone obelisk is placed on a pedestal. The monument is inscribed on all for sides. Two bands with the names of battles encircle the shaft.

The front faces south. On the front base, in raised capital letters, is the inscription:

SOLDIERS

The bands on the south face of shaft are inscribed:

ANTIETAM
and
GETTYSBURG

and the shaft has the carved seal of Connecticut and the inscription:

WASHBURN
POST. G.A.R.
1871
