"Belonged to the most important Ghibelline family of the city, the Salvucci in fact, were built impressive-looking, in order to symbolize the supremacy of the family of the city. Today there are less than the height of the past because at the time of their construction they exceeded 51 meters in height of the tower Rognosa , despite an express prohibition to exceed this height of 1255 .
The Salvucci had enriched themselves with the mercantile and wear, and they were bitter enemies of the Ardinghelli, Guelph family, who had built the twin towers in imitation of those of Salvucci at the other end of the square.
The towers are both a square base and with very few openings. only a few rectangular window. On the ground floor are of narrow doorways, surmounted by architrave or pointed arch."
