In the West Warwick village of Crompton is St. Mary Cemetery.
The cemetery is located along Church Street, about a half mile south of the intersection of Church, Main, and London Streets. The cemetery will be on the left - the entrance is just beyond the church. The gate is an iron gate with an archway stating, "St. Mary Cemetery" (the "S" may have dropped out).
The St. Mary Cemetery is a large plot of land next to St. Mary's Church and still has grave sites available. It was established in 1845 and the ground was consecrated in 1884.
According to Findagrave.com, there are over 1400 graves in the cemetery. The stones seen looked fairly modern. In back of the church, the oldest Catholic Church in Rhode Island, there are graves for early clergy, including Rev. James Gibson who was the priest for over 40 years, starting in 1848.
