This plaque which commemorates a First at Langston University, is located in the large grassy courtyard near the center of campus, just north of the library. Bricks line the walking path up to the plaque which is on the east side of a structure that is surrounded by a rock border.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
The first all black Greek-letter organization established in America, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. on December 4, 1906. It was founded by H.A. Callis, C.H. Chapman, E.K. Jones, G.B. Kelly, N.A. Murray, R.H. Ogle and V.W. Tandy. Alpha Phi Alpha promotes manly deeds, scholarship and love for all mankind.
Beta Kappa Chapter
The first chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha established in Oklahoma was chartered at Langston University on March 12, 1932. The chapter's birth was witnessed by 22 young men, and over the years Beta Kappa has produced many outstanding individuals, including doctors, lawyers, businessmen and college presidents.
