This tower is a bygone relic of the textile industry that flourished in the 50's, 60's and 70's era in the South. The coming of NAFTA and cheaper labor in other countries delivered the death knell for the textile mills of the South. The water tower stored water for the plant for many of the processes used to transform the cotton received from the gins into various types and grades of cloth. In its heyday, water flowed in and out the storage vessel proudly proclaiming people are working here. No longer does the water tower have the salute of fresh paint to signify the plant is in operation. Rust may one day claim this denizen of the mill hill community beneath it. Until that time, it serves as a reminder of a day gone by when the shifts of employees clocked in and out and proudly made a product that was stamped "Made in America."
