Beef was issued out from the post corral. On issue day, the braves would sit on their horses around the pen with their rifles. The pen was opened and when a steer ran out, they chased it and killed it. The squaws would then come out and clean and dress the carcass. This was, to some extent, to reproduce the thrill of hunting the buffalo.
