[DE] Lahnmarmor, früher auch Nassauer Marmor genannt, ist ein polierbarer Kalkstein, der im Lahntal zwischen Taunus und Westerwald vor allem in Balduinstein, Diez, Villmar und Schupbach gewonnen wurde. Der Baustoff wurde u.a. zur Ausstattung des Weilburger Schlosses, für die Eingangshalle des Empire State Buildings, für den Palast des Maharadschas von Tagore, für die St. Petersburger Eremitage und für den Kreml in Moskau verwendet. Außerdem wurden der Berliner, Würzburger und Mainzer Dom mit Lahnmarmor ausgestattet.

Eine besonders eindrucksvolle Anwendung von Lahnmarmor sieht man in Villmar. Es ist die 1894-95 erbaute Lahnbrücke, die komplett aus Lahnmarmor erbaut wurde. Die Villmarer Marmorbrücke besteht aus drei Stichbögen mit einer Spannweite von 21,5m. Bögen, Pfeiler und Brückenköpfe bestehen aus massiven geschnittenen Lahnmarmor-Quadern. Die Seitenflächen sind aus gemauerten Lahnmarmor-Schmucksteinen verschiedener Sorten gestaltet. Wegen ihrer technischen Bedeutung wurde die Villmarer Marmorbrücke 1985 als Kulturdenkmal unter Schutz gestellt.

[EN] Lahnmarmor (Lahn marble), formerly also called Nassau marble, is a polishable limestone, which was won in the Lahn valley between the Taunus and Westerwald especially in Balduinstein, Diez, Villmar and Schupbach. The building material was used for the facilities of Weilburg castle, for the lobby of the Empire State Building, for the palace of the Maharaja of Tagore, for the St. Petersburg Hermitage and the Kremlin in Moscow. In addition, it was used in the cathedrals in Berlin, Würzburg and Mainz.

A particularly impressive application of Lahnmarmor can be seen in Villmar. The Lahn bridge, which was built in 1894-95, is entirely made of Lahnmarmor. The marble bridge consists of three segmental arches with a span of 21.5 m. Arches, pillars and bridge heads consist of massive cut Lahn marble blocks. The side surfaces are constructed of precious marble stones of different varieties.
