The plaque is in the forecourt of the building opposite the entrance to the Visitors Centre which also performs the functions of the Ranger Station for Morton National Park.
Fitzroy Falls are named after the nearby falls & they & the national park have the second highest visitor rate for any national park in NSW. A large building was required to handle these numbers efficiently & therefore the visitors centre was constructed. Apart from being able to view information about the national park there is also a cafe & outdoor eating area. Boardwalks take you to the falls, which are only 200 metres away. There are numerous other walks.
The building was officially opened on 25 July 1994 by the Premier & the Minister for the Environment.
The plaque states:
This building was officially opened by Hon. John Fahey MP, Premier of New South Wales, Member for Southern Highlands
and
Hon. Chris Hartcher, MP, Minister for the Environment on 25 July 1994.
John Fahey:
Born in New Zealand, migrated to Australia in 1956. A lawyer prior to becoming a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly on 28 March 1984. Member for Camden & Southern Highlands. Between 25 March 1988 & 3 July 1992 held Ministerial positions including Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for Corrective Services, Minister for Ethnic Affairs, Treasurer. Premier of NSW from 24 June 1992 to 4 April 1995.
Chris Hartcher:
Presently the Member for Terrigal. A Member of the NSW Legislative Assembly since 19 March 1988.
