The Millennium Bridge (official name is London Millennium Footbridge) was opened for public use in June 2000. Bridge forms a direct link from St. Paul's Cathedral on the north bank of the Thames to the Tate Modern Gallery and the restored Globe Theatre. Infamously, the bridge earnt itself the unfortunate nickname of 'The Wobbly Bridge' two days after it's opening, when a charity walk across reported an unexpected swaying motion due to the weight of numbers crossing. As a result, the bridge closed for two years for engineering assessments and modification, which saw the installation of a number of fluid and mass dampers throughout the structure to counter the natural sway. The bridge today suffers no issues, and is one of the most visually spectacular modern constructions in the city.
