The town square in Denton is usually filled with people, even during severe weather, and the courthouse grounds are a popular place to sit or play. The courthouse itself is impossible to miss, and depending on one's location, it's visible from quite some distance.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1935 (CAS) THIS INTERSECTION STATION IS THE TOWER ON THE DENTON COUNTY COURTHOUSE, IN THE TOWN OF DENTON, TEXAS. THE TOWER IS ON THE CENTER OF THE BUILDING, ABOUT 160 FEET E OF THE CENTER LINE OF ELM STREET, AND ABOUT 140 FEET N OF THE CENTER LINE OF HICKORY STREET. THE BUILDING WAS ERECTED IN 1896 AND THE TOWER IS VERY PROMINENT. THE TOWER SETS ON A STONE BASE ABOUT 10 FEET HIGH ON TOP OF THE 80-FOOT STONE COURTHOUSE. THE BOTTOM OF THE TOWER IS AN OCTAGONAL TOWER ABOUT 15 FEET HIGH, WITH OPEN BALCONIES ON THE N, E, S, AND W SIDES. THERE IS A GREY SHINGLED, FOUR-SIDED PYRAMIDAL ORNAMENT AT EACH CORNER. EACH ORNAMENT HAS A GREEN FINIAL. ABOVE THIS TOWER THERE IS A SMALLER TOWER ABOUT 15 FEET HIGH WITH 2 GREEN LOUVRED WINDOWS NEAR THE BOTTOM ON THE N, E, S AND W SIDES OF ITS OCTAGONAL SHAPE, AND A CLOCK DIAL ABOVE THE WINDOWS. THE GREY-SHINGLED OCTAGONAL DOME-SHAPED ROOF IS ABOUT 15 FEET HIGH. AT ITS APEX THERE IS A GREEN PEDESTAL ABOUT 10 FEET HIGH WITH A BALL. ON THE BALL THERE IS AN ORNAMENTAL FINIAL ABOUT 6 FEET HIGH. THE TOTAL HEIGHT IS ABOUT 150 FEET.
