Die Wewelsburg hatte Vorgängergebäude. Der Ursprüngliche Burganlage wurde im 9. bis 10. Jh. errichtet und von Bauern zerstört. Die Burganlage, wie sie heute steht, entstand von 1603 bis 1609 und ist die einzige Burganlage Deutschlands, die eine dreieckige Grundform hat.
In der Burganlage erden der Süd- und Ostflügel vom Kreismuseum genutzt und die Jugendherberge befindet sich im Westflügel.
The Wewelsburg had previous building. The original castle was built in the 9th to the 10th century and destroyed by farmers. The castle as it stands today, was built from 1603 to 1609 and is the only castle in Germany, which has a triangular basic shape.
In the castle in the south and the east wing of the ground Kreismuseum used and the hostel is located in the west wing.
