In Montreal, East Germany would beat Poland 3-1 in the gold medal match. Soviet Union defeated Brazil for the bronze medal.
Varsity Stadium has been home to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues football (gridiron!) team since 1898. Varsity Stadium has hosted The Grey Cup (national professional championship) 30 times and the Vanier Cup (national university football championship) 21 times. It has also hosted many FIFA World Cup qualifying matches but not since the early 2000s when the site came into a state of serious disrepair.
Part of the stadium was demolished in 2002 and the site was largely refurbished including new grandstands, a new all weather track (in Varsity Blues blue) and an artificial turf field that is covered by a dome during winter. With the renovations seating capacity dropped from over 21,000 to about 5,000.
