"Mean Average" ist eine 6 Meter hohe abstrakte Bronzeskulptur des Bildhauers Anthony Cragg. Sie wurde am 20.06.2014 vom Künstler der Stadt Bonn als Leihgabe übergeben und steht seitdem auf dem Remigiusplatz in der Bonner Innenstadt.

Cragg stellt mit "Mean Average" - wie mit vielen seiner Werken - ein plastisches Volumen bestehend sowohl aus Fülle als auch aus Leere dar. Der Blickwinkel des Betrachters spielt dabei eine entscheidende Rolle - so gibt es keine Vorderseite der Skulptur und je nach Betrachtungsrichtung ergeben sich unterschiedlichste Ansichten. Der Titel der Skulptur soll die Mittelmäßigkeit der ökonomisch ausgerichteten Umwelt hervorheben, aus der Cragg mit seinen Skulpturen versucht, herauszubrechen.

Anthony "Tony" Cragg wurde 1949 in Liverpool geboren, lebt aber seit 1977 in Wuppertal. 1979 bis 2013 war er an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf tätig, als Professor und später als Rektor. Er ist international als Bildhauer der modernen Kunst anerkannt, seine Werke wurden u.a. bereits auf Biennalen in Venedig, Sao Paulo und Sydney ausgestellt.

"Mean Average" is an abstract bronze sculpture of 6 meters height by scuplptor Anthony Cragg. It was given by the artist to the city of Bonn on loan on 06/20/2014 and resides since then on the Remigiusplatz in Bonn.

Cragg displays in "Mean Average" - as in many of his creations - a plastic volume consisting of emptiness as well as of fullness. Thereby, the perspective of the observer plays an important role - there is no front side of the sculpture, and depending on the viewing angle completely different views unfold. The title of the sculture emphasizes the mediocrity of the economically orientated environment, which Cragg tries to overcome with his sculptures.

Anthony "Tony" Cragg was born in 1949 in Liverpool and lives in Wuppertal, Germany since 1977. Between 1979 and 2013 he worked at the Kunstakademie (art academy) Düsseldorf as professor and later as rector. He is internationally accepted as sculptor of modern art, his creations have been exhibited on biennial arts festivals in Venice, Sao Paulo, and Sydney among others.
