Arizona is known for its ghost towns - Tombstone, Bisbee, Castle Hot Springs. Many of Arizona's ghost towns were also mining centers. The "Ghost Towns" exhibit at the Arizona Historical Society museum in Tempe has a central display case dedicated to the rocks and minerals mined or found in Arizona. These include coprite, pyrite, copper, azurite, chalcopyrite, calcite, and malachite.
Mining tools and replicas are mixed in with the minerals.
Historical Society hours:
Tues. – Sat. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Sun. noon – 4 p.m.
Closed on Mondays and state holidays
Admission: $5 adults, $4 others, children under 11 free
Admission free with a Culture Pass from a local library
Two-for-one admission on Tuesdays
