Described as a primary azimuth mark, BALSAM 1940 No 1 can be found "SE of the [triangulation] station (NA2072) set flush in a 3- by 3-foot boulder protruding 1 foot. 11 feet S of the SW corner of the tool shed (caretakers cottage) and is stamped BALSAM 1940 No 1."
