This large wooden sign displays the name of the community of Chemainus, along with the name of the surrounding municipality - North Cowichan. It depicts a steam donkey pulling a large cut log in a scene typical of the region's long history of logging. The carving is signed "E. Schultes" and was carved in 1983, the same year the Chemainus sawmill announced its closure.
