This big bronze statue represents not only Elias Lönnrot but also his most well known work: Kalevala.

Elias Lönnrot is represented here with characters from his main work: Kalevala. This Finnish physician, philologist lived during most of the 19th Century. Kalevala it's a monumental compilation of Finnish oral tradition, collected by Elias during successive trips to Karelia, Kola Peninsula, and what is now the Baltic Countries.
The statue is made of bronze, about 1,5x real size scale, and placed on a stone plinth. Elias is represented with the tools of his passion, as collector of traditional Finnish oral poetry: a notepad and a pen.
