The Italianate design home was built for a riverboat captain, David Longwell, who originally lived closer to the river on the same lot until the Pennsylvania Railroad was constructed right next to his house. (See secondary link below)
Local architect/builder John Blythe was instrumental in transforming Monongahela City with multiple projects around this post-Civil War time period, being at three churches, four commercial buildings, and five brick homes in progress. These were in several different architectual styles. His career was later hampered by destruction of his planing mill twice - by fire and flood.
In 1994, the home was purchased and became an antique store with the collection of Roy T. Lietza, which the current function listed. (See secondary link 2 below)
