Heritage information
Bow Road Station
Listed as a building of National Significance

Architect: C A Brereton, 1902

The station was built for the Whitechapel & Bow RaiLway, which
allowed the District line to be extended from Whitechapel out
into the growing eastern suburbs. The simple brick and timber
building, set above the railway cutting, is typical of an
Edwardian station. The platforms, situated where the railway
emerges from the 'below street' tunnel to the surface, is
notable for the brick retaining walls and the massive cast iron
columns, set along the curved platforms, that support the
roof structure with their brick lined jack arches' above
the tracks.

Wikipedia has an article about the station that tells us:

Bow Road tube station is on the District and Hammersmith & City lines of the London Underground. It is on Bow Road in Bow, east London, about 300 metres from Bow Church DLR station and is in fare zone 2. Out of station interchange (OSI) is allowed between the stations.

The station was opened in 1902 by the Whitechapel and Bow Railway (which was later incorporated into the District Line), with the Hammersmith & City Line (then the Metropolitan line) following in 1936.

The Great Eastern Railway Bow Road railway station, which closed in 1949, stood on the opposite of Bow Road.

Ownership of the station passed to London Underground in 1950.

The station booking hall is a Grade II listed building.

Bow Road marks the point where westbound trains from Upminster and Barking enter a tunnel; the gradient of the tunnel approach, which is to the east of the station, is 1 in 28, the steepest on the tube network.

London Buses routes 25; 205; 425; and night route N205 serve the station.

There is an out of station interchange with Bow Church DLR station via a short walk.

As mentioned, the ticket hall is a Grade II listed building with the entry at the English Heritage website telling us:

Mid/later C19 station. Exterior facade to Bow Road of red brick, with stone eaves cornice and brick blocking course. Hipped slate roof. Alternate round arched doors, with terra cotta architraves and keystones. Band above. Panelled doors with fanlights, 4 light windows. Inside, wooden bridge (enclosed) across platforms and wooden platform canopy, supported by large, cast iron, wall brackets. Barrel vaulted brick roof extends under road, vaulting supported on cast iron beams and on large cast iron pillars which extend in a line, following the curve of both platforms back into the tunnel. 12 columns on one platform, 14 on the other.
