John Halstead Banks, III (Sep. 23, 1923 - Apr. 17, 1945) served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 397th Fighter Squadron, 368th Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II.
He was "Killed In Action" when the P-47 Thunderbolt Fighter he was piloting was shot down by flak while strafing near Lom, Czechoslovakia. He survived the crash landing and was killed by local police.
He had served in the Air Corps for two years and seven months at the time of his death.
