As I approached I thought it was a sculpture of a Giant Fish-Head.
Its only when you get close, you can see its a bell.
The Millennium Bell was designed by Artist Chris Turner in 2000.
The Bell is now traditionally used in the Motor City, to ring in the New Year.
Located on the East quadrant of Grand Circus Park, which is reminiscent of a very large traffic island.
Grand Circus Park is divided North/South through its center by Woodward Avenue (M-1)
"The Millennium Bell, located in the Grand Circus Park was commissioned by the City of Detroit to ring in the new millennium.
Since then, the ringing of the triangular-shaped bell has become a New Year's Eve tradition. Artist Chris Turner collaborated to design a 10 ton bell that hangs from arches that spand 40 feet across and stand 26 feet tall. The bell was dedicated on December 31, 1999 and remains one of Detroit's unique treasures." Text Source: (
