The Wilbor family began as imigrants to the US thru William Wilbor who came from Braintree England in 1630. Samuel Wilbor built this house after he married Mary Potter in 1689 to settle down and raise a family of 11 and farm.
The house was left to his son Dr William Wilbor who expanded the house in 1740 and also modernized the house. He practiced both farming and medicine. Dr William Wilbor son inherited the house also named William in 1770's and was an active member of the Quaker Society of Friends. He left the house to his sons Jonathan and William who built the barn, which is pictured.
The Wilbor family continued owning the property thru successive generations until the 1920's. In 1955 the Little Compton Historical Society purchased the property as their headquarters. The LCHS conducted a historically accurate restoration of the building. Today the LCHS conducts tours of the property.
