The church was formed in 1772 in a town then know as Gageborough with 10 members. In 1772 they voted to build a meeting house. The first pastor was Rev. David Avery a graduate of Yale He was reluctantly dismissed so that he could become a chaplain in the Continental Army. In 1779 another meeting house was built, however that burned to ground in 1790. AA modest wooden structure was built and served the congregation for over 50 years. In 1823 a new brick meeting house was erected on the same spot. In 1847 that brick structure was replaced with the one that is pictured in this Waymark. No reason was given in the historical records why the brick structure was replaced with this one.

This church was built to accommodate 30 persons and a parsonage was also built on this site in sometime before 1834. It was replaced in 1903. Over the course of the years the pastors that served have graduates of Yale, Harvard and Dartmouth.
