A samurai sword is stolen from gangster Frank Whymark. Lovejoy is given an offer he can’t refuse to get it back. He manages to find the sword is coming up for auction and bids for it, only to be outbid by his old mentor Jim Leonard.
Jim meets a pretty girl called Joe at the auction. He wines and dines her and ends up locked in his hotel bathroom, whilst she runs off with his car and the sword. Lovejoy agrees to help Leonard and manages to find his car, but no sword.
Eventually Joe makes contact with Lovejoy and tries on the sting she used on Leonard. Lovejoy is clued up, however, and finds out from her handbag that she is Joe Whymark, daughter of gangster Frank. She had stolen the sword to teach her father a lesson. Lovejoy persuades her to return the sword to her father and gets himself off the hook.
