At Hanger Lane there is a major road junction where the North Circular (A406) crosses Western Avenue. At one point there is eight lanes of traffic heading in the same direction so the solution was to send pedestrians beneath it. Maps were needed!

The subway system, that connects to Hanger Lane tube station, has four tunnels forming a cross. Each tunnel has its own identification (S1 to S4) with S1 being to/from the tube station in the north west. S2 is in the north east, S3 in the south east and S4 in the south west. Each tunnel has a ramp and stair exit.
The map is orientated north-up with the built-up areas being shown as blue. The roads forming the gyratoty system are shown as black and are named. Open spaces are shown in green and the subways shown as orange. Two further subway systems exist to the north of the gyratory and contain tunnels S5, S6 and S7. The underground station is indicated and the tracks are also shown.
At the base of the map is an identification so the observer can quickly determine which tunnel they are near. There is also a legend and bus stop details.
This "you are here" map is located at the top of the stairs for "S1" and is close to the above ground access to the tube station.
