Children's Hospital is a large hospital located on N.E. 13th Street amid the numerous medical buildings that form the OU Medical complex. The hospital address shown on a low wall is 1200 Children's Avenue. On the west side of the hospital is a long, narrow garden area raised slightly above the drives. This area has native stone patio areas, with plantings.
At the west end of this garden are three bronze life-sized sculptures of teen-aged children running. In the lead is a boy about thirteen who is wearing a shirt and jeans. His arms are held up and out as he runs along, with a smile on his face.
A short ways behind him are two slightly older teens, a boy and a girl. They are holding hands and also running, each with an arm raised, and smiles on their faces. The boy is wearing a T-Shirt and jeans and the girl is wearing a dress. These are happy children, and must be an encouraging sight to the families who visit Children's Hospital.
At the far east edge of the garden, at the front entrance to the hospital is the fourth figure in this sculpture setting - a dog. This large, long-haired dog is trotting along too, and has a wide doggie-smile. This is a very happy rendition of childhood.
The artist is Matthew Placzek, a sculptor from Omaha, Nebraska, whose works can be found throughout the U.S. A name could not be found for this particular piece of work, but an graved signature shows the date 2014. (
