I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey triangulation station from 1967 in good condition. It is monumented on top of a low-lying boulder near the remnants of the former Old Baldy Lookout Tower. This station does not exist in the NGS database. I also located what seem to be remnants of the former U.S. Forest Service disk (PID#
NZ1061) that was once located directly underneath and center to the former lookout. Only the shaft hole and part of the disk shaft was recovered. I also located another piece of a shaft and hole and epoxy to another disk, most likely a reference disk to this triangulation station. The only visible evidence of the Old Baldy Lookout Tower are the four concrete footings that are still visible as well as pieces of wood that once made up this tower.

THIS TRIANGULATION STATION IS NEAR THE FORMER OLD BALDY LOOKOUT TOWER ON THE SUMMIT OF OLD BALDY, SITUATED ABOUT 20 MILES AIR LINE E OF ASHLAND. REACHED FROM ASHLAND BY DRIVING E 34 MILES ON DEAD INDIAN ROAD TO BIG DRAW ROAD, THENCE S ON BIG DRAW ROAD 2.5 MILES TO FOREST SERVICE ROAD 620, THENCE APPROX. 1 MILE SE TO A PARKING LOT, THEN PACKING 500 FEET TO LOOKOUT. A U.S.C&G.S. DISK SET IN A LOW LYING BOULDER NEAR THE CENTER OF THE FORMER BASE OF THE OLD BALDY LOOKOUT TOWER, ABOUT 6 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND.
