Several areas of pavers lie in front of benches along the one-quarter mile Red River Journey historical walk. The Red River Journey and Red River Heritage Gardens were jointly sponsored by The Meinders Foundation, the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation, the OKC Federation of Women's Clubs and The Colonial Dames.
This is a beautiful and educational site along the south edge of the Oklahoma History Center property. A wide pebbled walkway meanders through the area, simulating the flow of the Red River, which forms the southern border of Oklahoma. Along this walkway are over 50 historical markers depicting various events, people and places which are part of Oklahoma's unique history. Also along the path are 30 markers describing the trees and plants native to Oklahoma.
The benches along the walk, with their donated paver patios, allow you to stop and rest and enjoy the scenery. Plan to take at least an hour to visit this informative and beautiful site.
