The three boxes are in an east-west line, the first on Stanley Street, the second on Josephine Street and the third on Hall Street. All are between Baker and Vernon Streets.

Each of the three boxes has a short account of a particular segment of the facility's history. This one deals with the formative years of Nelson Hydro, from the year of construction of the first section of the powerhouse in 1909, to 1927, when Nelson Hydro was a going concern, selling power to other communities and making profits for the city.

The second, smaller, box features Nelson Hydro Superintendent Ron Greyson, who lived from 1894 to 1987.
NELSON HYDRO HISTORY : 1909-1927
In 1908, Nelson voters approved a second similar generator with a unit rating of 1,000 kilowatts (1,500 HP) for the Upper Bonnington Falls power plant. Construction went ahead and the new generator started operation on June 10, 1910. After World War I, Nelson's rural neighbours began asking for electrical service, and in 1924, BC granted Nelson the right to supply power to both sides of the West Arm from Upper Bonnington Falls to Balfour and Procter, and along the west side of Kootenay Lake to Ainsworth and Woodbury. The sale of power became a major revenue source for the City, making amenities like the Civic complex possible. In 1936, at the height of the Depression, the net revenue from power sales was $75,000.
