The WILLIAM PENN HOUSE, 206 Delaware St., with the original front brickwork replaced, but that on the sides and back remaining, was the home of Arnoldus de la Grange, appointed a magistrate immediately after William Penn had formally taken possession of New Castle in 1682. Tradition has it that Penn stayed here over night, and "Penn's room," with its corner fireplace and original woodwork, is preserved - Delaware: A Guide to the First State, 1938, pg 247-248.
The building is much as described in the Guide. I was not able to determine if "Penn's room" is still preserved. The building is now used for offices and shops and is in very good condition.
