Marcel Braitstein was born in Belgium in 1935 and immigrated to Canada in 1951. His sculptures can be found today around the world. A leading figure in the present-day cultural scene in Quebec, he is well knowned for his work as an artist, teacher and writer.
Braitstein's approach to sculpture is universal in scope. In his in-depth examination of the human condition based on themes such as death, destruction and war, he manipulates anthropomorphic or animalistic figures with a rich plastic presence. Oiseau sur colonne is a prime example of his work. A bird, with spread wings ansd open beak ready to size its prey, evokes the violence of a merciless bird world.

This sculpture was a gift from the artist to the Collection du Musée du Bas-St-Laurent and the inauguration took place in the Fall of 2002.
It is made from welded and painted corten steel and measures 78 x 78 x 375cm.
