To fine the: the Indian Cemetery: From Hwy. 93 turn west on Black Lake Road, 450 meters to cemetery. It is just west of Dayton.

The Indian Cemetery is located in Lake County. This is a small Kootenai Nation community cemetery with approximately 150 gravesites.
This was a most interesting cemetery, as most of the grave markers are white crosses inscribed with name, birth and death information. There are a few gravestones from the early establishment of the cemetery.
There is a large memorial dedicated the Chiefs of the Kootenais Nation:
1828 To 1900 - Eneas Paul Big Knife Son of Big Knife, an Iroquois, and Ahn-Akaht. A Kootenai the Most Renowned Chief of the Kootenais -- Reigned As Chief from 1870 To 1900.
1852 To 1903- Isaac Big Knife Son of Eneas Paul Big Knife And Su-Saht, Both Kootenai Ruled As Ciref' Only A Short Period Of Time -- 1901-1903.
1856 To 1942 - Koostahtah Also the Son Of Eneas Paul Big Knife and Su-Saht. Became Chief and Spiritual Leader of the Kootenais, after His Brother Isaac's Death, His Tenure as Leader of Kootenais Spanned 38 Years from 1904 to 1942.
1979 To 1966 - Baptiste Mathias Son of Aht Wahn Mutt Yahs and Klu-Neek. Was Appointed Sub Chief to Koostahtah for the Purpose of Continuing the Traditional Kootenai Ceremonies. He Came Full Chief after Koostahtah's Death and Reigned Until His Death in 1966.
