The medieval town of Fritzlar was looped by a 2.5 km long wall which was 7.5 to 10 m high and 3 m thick on average. At strategic locations it had high watch towers. The old fortifications, however, were neglected since the Seven Years' War, for financial reasons, and probably also because of their uselessness against modern artillery.
