The highest point in Lee County is right at about 1000 feet, and is easy to visit. It is right along Compton Road about 1/4 mile south of Shaw Road / Chicago Road - the old stage coach line from Chicago to Galena. Park along the side of Compton Road, jump the small ditch, then climb almost vertically a few feet to stand at the edge of the field. To avoid possible copyright issues, I have not provided a topographic map of the high point, but if you click on the link provided below, you may peruse the topo on the PeakBagger.com site, which has a wealth of information.

Being a trained Severe Weather Spotter, this poster used to drive from his home a few miles away to this spot when severe weather threatened, to be able to see what was coming. In the summer, the corn often causes "prairie canyons" that disallow viewing very far. I often had to stop just down the hill to the north, closer to Chicago Road, to be able to see around the corn.
