Immanuel Evangelical Luthern Church is in Brooklyn Township in Lee County, Illinois. The churchyard cemetery (graveyard) is known as Brooklyn Cemetery. The 2 July 2014 issue of The Mendota Reporter had an article on this church for its 150th year anniversary, since it was established on 17 July 1864. They met in a seminary in Mendota for the first year. The cornerstone for this beautiful church was laid on 17 July 1865.
The article explains that the church services were originally given only in German ("auf deutsch"). By 1920 there was a once-per-month English service, and by 1937 it was the other way around: English with a once-per-month German service, which continued until 1949.
Although this poster has always attended Bible and Baptist churches, we sent our children to this church for VBS a couple of times in the 1990s. The church has been in continuous operation since its establishment in 1864, with no periods of inoperation.
