The piece is by Josefa Filkosky who was a Professor of Art at Seaton Hill College from 1955 until 1999. Several of her works are displayed around the campus.
"Slab Series I in Reds" consists of six 1" steel plates cut into trapezoidal shapes, and then welded into an overlapping pattern.
Reference the similar story of Waymark WMM1PY for "Pipe Theme in Red/Oranges I". In the summer of 2009, the medicine program housed in the nearby Lynch Hall installed a blue (school color) sign to identify the facility. A decision was then made to repaint the abstract art piece with a similar blue color to be visually consistent with the new building sign. This arbitary choice was reversed for the "Pipe Theme" piece which was also moved, but this geometic art scuplture remains blue - without an identifying plaque to highlight the original name. The subsequent enamel coating has the artwork in excellent condition.
