Born on May 29, 1903, Bob Hope's career spanned seven decades, ending on July 27, 2003 at the age of 100. He was born in Britain, but was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. His career began in the 1930s in Vaudeville, and later his popular radio show ran from 1938 to the mid-1950s. He went on to star in movies and television and is well known for his work with the USO, entertaining our troops in World War II, Vietnam and on to the Gulf War.
A bronze bust of Hope stands on the north side of the Bob Hope Pavilion at Stars and Stripes Park. The statue stands on the patio of the pavilion, and is behind the iron fence which surrounds the area. A plaque on the base beneath the bust quotes Bob Hope:
"...Good citizens built America
the Beautiful.
