This benchmark is a 101 foot high monument built in 1926 to commemorate Oliver Hazard Perry's War of 1812 victory over the British in the battle of Lake Erie.

The monument is located in Presque Isle State Park on Crystal Point - east of Thompson Drive. The area surrounding the monument also contains a number of signs containing information on the history of the War of 1812, Perry, & the area.

1/1/1975 by USLS (FIRST OBSERVED)
DESCRIBED BY US LAKE SURVEY 1975 (WAB) THE APEX OF PERRY MONUMENT LOCATED IN PRESQUE ISLE STATE PARK. THE STRUCTURE IS A SQUARE CONCRETE TOWER WHICH STANDS ABOUT FEET HIGH.
