The Plains Public Library is located at 108 Railroad Avenue/Hwy. 200 next to the Mangy Moose Mercantile Garden Center. There is a lovely and tranquil park with a nice water feature in front of the library.

The Plains Public Library has a large selection fiction, non fiction, reference and in addition you can also borrow movies and music CDs.

The Plains Public Library was organized in 1918 by Mrs. Fred Dudley and Mrs. J.M. Self.

The Library was housed in three other locations. The first site was the McGowan building, second, was a room in the First National Bank building. In 1937 upon completion of the City Hall, the Library was moved there and remained there until the move to its present location at in April, 1985.
