The Travertine Nature Center is a long, low, one-story rock building constructed in the wooded area on the northeast side of the park. Known as Platt National Park when the building was constructed, it continues to be a center for visitor education and enlightenment. There are eleven rooms, including a large exhibit room, auditorium, and demonstration rooms, as well as offices for park staff.

The building is clad with Arkansas Hackett sandstone in brown, orange and white and has a low-pitched metal-sided roof, which replaced the original wood shingles in 1992. On the east side (rear), an auditorium wing stretches 60 feet along the creek bank. The architectural style is considered Park Service Modern, after a style adopted by the National Park Service in the 1950s. The building has a full-width porch across the front with casement windows, with a large stone chimney and wall shielding the outdoor access to the restrooms. A unique feature of the nature center is the north end of the building, which straddles the Travertine Creek. The long, low construction, with natural colored stone, and the heavily wooded area, are the perfect features for this rustic Parks Service building.

It was placed on the National Register in 2010 (#10001180) and is yet to be digitized at the time of this writing.
