Domain is a small community about 20 miles south of Winnipeg that began being settled in 1876, about 5 years before the railroad arrived. American investors had speculated on the land and by the turn of the century American immigrants outnumbered Canadian and English almost two to one. In 1901 the first post office was opened and was called Shanawan. In 1925 the railroad decided to change the name to Selburn to avoid confusion with Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. The residents decided they wanted to be called Domain, but it wasn't until 1933 that Domain was the official name for both the post office and railway station. (visit link)
