Seven Oaks House was the residence of the Inkster family from its construction in 1851-1853 until 1912. John Inkster was born in Scotland in 1799 and came to the Red River Settlement in 1821 as a Hudson's Bay Company servant. He become a farmer and merchant, running a general store and post office out of the building next to the house.

Restoration of the property began in 1956, and the house opened to the public as a museum in 1958. A guided tour is provided, which includes the parlor, breakfast room, kitchen, and dining room on the main floor; and four upstairs bedrooms, all furnished with items from the late 19th century. Visitors can also descend the stone steps through the trap door to the root cellar (watch your head!) Next to the house, the general store has examples of goods that would have been sold there. There is also a display of period carts on the grounds.

Parking is available next to the museum grounds. Allow about 30 minutes for your visit. There is no charge to visit, but donations are welcomed.
