Z. M. Haynes was laid to rest in the Hillcrest cemetery in Deer Lodge, Powell County, Montana in 1887.

Born in Sudbury, Massachusetts on April 10, 1815, Mr. Haynes passed away on May 10, 1887 at the age of 54 years.

His zinc headstone, about 5.5 feet tall, is in the form of a square pillar atop a double base, with a hipped roof atop a cross gabled roof. It is adorned with four decorative plaques and rough stone appearance on the lower base, as well as flourishes engraved on each of the four sides. It stands atop a low concrete plinth.
