Located amidst other maritime placards and memorials, this bonze sculpture by Ingi Þ. Gíslason depicts two men, life-sized, wearing long coats and mittens. One raises his hand to hide his eyes from glare while the figure on the left points out to the sea with his right hand.
The English placard reads:
"Those who acknowledge your name will
trust in you,
for you, Lord, do not abandon those
who seek you.
Psalms 9:10
Looking Seawards by Ingi P. Gilason
The National Seamen's Day
Council in Reykjavik and Hafnarfjordur
erected this memorial on the
ancient shoreline of Reykjavik
to commemorate the 80th anniversary
of the Port of Reykjavik and the
60th National Seamen's Day in 1997.
With respect and gratitude to the
Icelandic Seafaring Community.
...they bring wealth to the nation
food for the child,
lay the solid foundation
where the future is built.
