[DE] Auf dem Rathausvorplatz in Barmen, der nun Johannes-Rau-Platz heißt, wurde am 21. Juli 1981 ein Brunnen mit dem Namen "Das Tal der Wupper" eingeweiht. Er war ein Geschenk des Unternehmens Vorwerk & Co. anlässlich der 50-Jahr-Feier Wuppertals (im Jahr 1979). Der Düsseldorfer Bildhauer Bert Gerresheim gewann den Wettbewerb, der von Vorwerk in Zusammenarbeit mit der Stadt durchgeführt wurde.

Der Brunnen zeigt verschiedene Stationen aus der Geschichte der Stadt. Das Wasser rinnt in dem Brunnen, der wie eine Landschaft ausgebreitet ist. Das aus 26 Reliefs zusammengesetzte Bild enthält über 700 Einzeldarstellungen von Personen und Ereignissen.

[EN] At the square in front of the town hall in Barmen, which is called "Johannes Rau Platz" now, there is a fountain called "Das Tal der Wupper" ("The Valley of the Wupper"). It was inaugurated on July 21, 1981. It was a gift from the company Vorwerk & Co. on the occasion of the 50th anniversary celebration of Wuppertal (in 1979). The Düsseldorf based sculptor Bert Gerresheim won the competition, which was conducted by Vorwerk in cooperation with the city of Wuppertal.

The fountain is one large piece of art which shows several stages in the history of the city. The basin of the fountain is spread out like a landscape. The composite of 26 reliefs image contains over 700 individual representations of people and events.
