Vuosina 1939-1941 toimi Kallahden rannalla ilmavoimien vesilentokoneiden tukikohta. Talvisodassa Blackburn Ripon -vesilentokoneilla operoinut Lentolaivue 36 toimi Kallvikista lentäen valvonta-, pommitus- ja sukellusvenetorjuntalentoja Suomenlahdelle.

Lentolaivue 36 oli entinen Suomen ilmavoimien lentolaivue joka tunnettiin myös nimellä Erillinen lentolaivue.
Laivueen komentajana toimi kapteeni Helmer Helenius. Tämä laivue, jolla oli kellukkeilla varustettuja meritoimintakoneita, oli aluksi sijoitettu Helsingin Vuosaareen (Kalvik), mutta siirrettiin 12.12.1939 Helsinki-Malmille, jolloin koneet oli varustettu pyörillä tai suksilla.
Kalustona Lentolaivue 36:lla oli meritoimintakoneita: sodan alussa 6 Blackburn Riponia; ja sodan aikana se sai vahvistuksina vielä 2 Riponia, 2 Koolhoven F.K.52:ta ja yhden DB-3:n. Koneita käytettiin tiedusteluun, sukellusveneiden torjuntaan ja pommituksiin.
Lentolaivue 36 luovutti talvisodan alussa yhden Riponinsa Täydennyslentolaivue 39:lle, jonka koulutuslentue käytti sitä reserviläisohjaajien vesilentokoulutukseen.

Squadron 36 was a former Finnish Air Force squadron, also known as separate squadron.
The squadron was commanded by Captain Helmer Helenius. This squadron, which was equipped with floats sea operation machines were initially placed in Vuosaari (Kalvik), but was transferred to Helsinki-Malmi from 12.12.1939, when the machines were equipped with wheels or skis.
The equipment Squadron 36 had a maritime operation machines: the war at the beginning of 6 Blackburn Riponia; and during the war, it was confirmed by a further 2 Riponia, 2 Koolhoven FK52 to and one DB-3: about Machines were used for intelligence gathering, submarines, fighting and bombing.
