Dennis Parker disappeared seven years ago leaving his wife and child, and £800 missing from his employer. Seven years on he appears in the Aidensfield Arms claiming to have lost his memory. When Rowan investigates he finds that Parker has been living elsewhere and has a second wife.
Meanwhile Greengrass gets involved with a mad man called Harold Jackson. Jackson tries to involve Greengrass in an insurance fraud whereby they each set fire to each others bartns and claim the insurance. Greengrass has difficulty shaking Jackson off after Jackson burns Greengrassses barn down.
