The Blue Hole, a geological phenomenon. The natural, bell-shaped pool is 80 feet deep and has astonishing clarity. Now mostly used for scuba-diving, with limited recreation swimming. Located on the Historic Route 66 Corridor, in Santa Rosa.

"The grand dream of moving people by car westward was realized in 1927 with the opening of Route 66. Motorists flocked onto the massive new highway system known as America's "New Main Street." Within eight years, the Santa Rosa section was open. Besides offering a delightful watering hole to weary travelers, Santa Rosa provided additional comforts in an era of tough traveling. Families heading west in hopes of a better life, sightseers, truckers hauling goods from coast to coast, all found respite in Santa Rosa's motels and cafés which lined the highway through town.: Text Source: (visit link)

"While the landscape around Santa Rosa is more semi-arid ranch country than desert, it's true! Santa Rosa is the SCUBA Diving Capital of the Southwest. There's the famous Blue Hole, a geological phenomenon. The natural, bell-shaped pool is 80 feet deep and has astonishing clarity and a constant water temperature of 61 degrees. The City of Santa Rosa owned recreation area provides an excellent diver facilities; a warm room, hot showers and plenty of parking for divers." Text Source: (visit link)

"Santa Rosa’s stretch of Route 66 is forever memorialized in American film history in Steinbeck’s epic novel, Grapes of Wrath with a memorable train scene, as a freight train steams over the Pecos River railroad bridge in the center of town. The grand dream of making the entire U.S. accessible was realized in 1926 with the creation of Route 66. Tourists flocked onto America's “New Main Street.” Besides offering a delightful watering hole to weary travelers, Santa Rosa provided additional comforts in an era of tough traveling. Fortunately, it is not too difficult to relive the golden era of Route 66. You can still get a taste of the old days at some of the classic cafes that refused to be forgotten. Visitors from all over the world still wind their way along the historic road.: Text Source: (visit link)
