The most notorious and publicized spot where Johnny Walker ‘Red’ deposited what proved to be his last package for his KGB handler on 19 May 1985 was located in Montgomery County, Maryland, on Partnership Road. Before he was nabbed, Walker had parked his car under a large oak tree at the site and he hid the booty behind a nearby utility pole, about 20 feet from the tree. At the time, it was identified by the number M14562 nailed on it. The number on the pole is now is VZ14562 and is in black letters on an orange background. The FBI later calculated the site where Walker left the brown grocery bag full of national secrets was exactly 24.9 miles from the White House.
